Extraction Technologies

Since 1961, Aroma has been using cutting-edge equipment, technology and processes. These allow us to unlock every trace of potential from our raw materials, which you can pass on to your customers.

With an ever changing environment, we understand the importance of keeping up to date with the latest and safest technologies. This is why we invest heavily in research and development into extraction technology.

We are proud to house state-of-the-art facilities that put us one step ahead of others in the industry, while also allowing us to optimize the retention of delicate nutrients.

Freeze Drying

Freeze-drying allows for food to be dried at low temperatures without damaging the physical structure. The lyophilization process means that the finished product does not need to be refrigerated or preserved with chemicals.

Process:

Firstly, the temperature of the product is lowered to below-freezing. Secondly, a high-pressure vacuum is applied to extract the water vapor. Thirdly, the vapour is turned back into ice when it collects on a condenser. Finally, an increase in temperature will remove all leftover moisture from the product.

Aroma uses this process for GlycOmega-PLUS™ and ABA-Active™.

flash dry mussel powder producer

Flash Drying

Flash-drying was created to dehydrate heat-sensitive products such as bioactive proteins, slurries, granules, and powders. It allows for increased temperatures to be used and ensures the finished product is of the highest quality.

Process:

Slurry is dispersed into a stream of heated air, which then travels through a drying duct. The slurry then dries as it is conveyed through the duct.

This process allows Aroma to produce GlycOmega™ Green-lipped mussel powder and OystaZIN™ within 5 minutes, but still ensuring all of the bioactive proteins and Omega-3 lipids are retained.

Vaccum Drum Drying Technology

Vacuum Drum Drying

Vacuum drum dying maintains the highest hygienic standard as there is no recirculation of material, no waste, and the drum is accessible for thorough cleaning. In addition, there is no risk of heat-damage affecting the product.

Process:

Drum drying uses a continuous indirect drying method, whereby the products are dried by spreading them into a thin layer on a heated surface. The inside of this drum is heated using steam, which is a closed system. This ensures that the product will not come in contact with the steam or condensation.

Aroma uses this process for GlycOmega-PLUS™.

Supercritical Fluid Extraction

Super critical fluid extraction (SCFE CO2) dissipates the fluid at a supercritical pressure and temperature. It's a great substitute for traditional solvent extraction processes and does not require solvent recovery equipment. Aroma uses this process for GlycOmega™OIL.
